✔️ Salost DR belongs to the bisphosphonate group of medicines that slow bone loss, increase bone mass, and reduce the risk of fractures. It is prescribed for:
- Postmenopausal Osteoporosis: Prevention and treatment in women after menopause.
- Osteoporosis in Men: Increasing bone mass in men with osteoporosis.
- Steroid-Induced Osteoporosis: Prevention and treatment in men and women on long-term corticosteroid therapy.
- Paget’s Disease: Treatment of abnormal bone metabolism in men and women.
✔️ Dosage
- Postmenopausal Osteoporosis:
- 5 mg daily, 35 mg weekly, or 150 mg monthly.
- Prevention of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis:
- 5 mg daily.
- Steroid-Induced Osteoporosis:
- 5 mg daily for individuals on prednisone (≥7.5 mg/day).
- Osteoporosis in Men:
- 35 mg weekly on the same day each week.
✔️ Administration
- Take Salost DR with a full glass (120 mL) of plain water while upright (sitting or standing).
- Avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation.
- Do not eat, drink (other than water), or take other medications for at least 30 minutes after the dose.
- Missed Dose Instructions:
- 35 mg Weekly Dose: Take the missed dose the morning after it is remembered and return to the regular schedule. Avoid taking two doses on the same day.
- 150 mg Monthly Dose: If the next dose is more than 7 days away, take the missed dose as soon as possible, and resume the normal schedule.
- Pediatric Use: Not established; not recommended for children.
- Elderly: No dosage adjustments necessary; safe and effective in individuals ≥75 years.
- Renal Impairment: Avoid severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min).

- Chest pain, difficulty swallowing, or severe heartburn.
- Severe joint, muscle, or bone pain.
- Jaw pain, swelling, or numbness.
- Mild stomach upset, diarrhea, constipation, or gas.

- Symptoms: Hypocalcemia, nausea, or other electrolyte imbalances.
- Treatment: Administer calcium or magnesium antacids to bind and reduce absorption. Consider gastric lavage if a significant overdose occurs.

- NSAIDs/Aspirin: May increase gastrointestinal irritation.
- Antacids, Calcium, Magnesium, or Aluminum Supplements: Can interfere with the absorption of Risedronate. Avoid taking them within 30 minutes of Salost DR.

- Hypersensitivity to Risedronate.
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min).
- Hypocalcemia (low blood calcium).
- Pregnancy and lactation.

- Pregnancy: Not recommended (Category C). Discontinue immediately if taken during pregnancy.
- Lactation: Not to be used; unknown if Risedronate is excreted in breast milk.
✔️ Precautions & Warnings
- Ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D intake if dietary levels are insufficient.
- Do not take it if you cannot remain upright for 30 minutes.
- Use caution in individuals with poor kidney function or esophageal disorders.
- Immediately stop the medication and seek medical attention if symptoms of an allergic reaction occur (e.g., swelling of the face or difficulty breathing).
